Parking, Transport and… Shuttles?

The key factor we wanted to ensure in developing the Illawarra Escarpment Traverse was the overall experience for participants.

This includes everything from purchasing your entry to course design and communications about key aspects of the event.

Event Shuttle Interest – As part of the early planning stages, we explored the option of providing a shuttle service. Our initial view is that it would be best to open the event first and then assess interest before confirming whether a shuttle is viable. As this is a fully self-funded event, the shuttle would be an additional cost and would only be offered on an as-needed basis.

Based on current estimates, the cost may be up to $35 for a one-way shuttle from Hopetoun Park back to Stanwell Park Beach Reserve. If there is sufficient interest, we would be pleased to offer this option.

So let’s talk transport options:

Drive and park – Part of the course design was factoring in parking at both the start and finish of the course.

19K Stanwell Park Beach Reserve has ample parking on site for the start of the event. Additional overflow parking is located at the Northern Car Park, and south on Park Parade and a short walk to event start.

Hopetoun Park Precinct

For the 6km event and the finish of the 19km; there is parking at Hopetoun Park Precinct as well as overflow parking to the north at Panorama House, further options exist north at Sublime Point as well.

Carpooling – We love being able to explore the outdoors and as such, sustainability is close to us. As a first option, we would love to see both 6km and 19km runners team up to carpool between the start line at Stanwell Park Beach and the start/finish line at Hopetoun Park.

Ride Share – Ride share apps operate in the area and it is possible to book in advance to ensure you can reach the start and finish line of your choice.

Public Transport – Sydney Trains operate regular services to Stanwell Park from both North and South destinations, ensure you check the most up to date timetables closer to the event.

Unfortunately, Sublime Point Stairs are not due to reopen until the end of 2026. So trains are not currently an option to Austinmer Train Station for Hopetoun Park.
